Yellowish-orange colored quartz like portions can be "Electrum", a natural alloy of gold and silver. High grade Electrum was used by the Roman Empire to make their coinage.

Stephanite often so black seeming to absorb all light and in other conditions it it has a dark blue cast.

300 ton mint press on site has stamped out its own unique Virginia City Commemorative Medallion in precious metal crafted by a world class engraver formerly employed with one of the large country treasury departments for a long time. The precious metal Ultra-High Relief Virginia City Commemorative Medallion heralds a jam-packed theme about the heroic efforts of the late 1800s Comstock pioneers and miners. With a loop it can be seen that the medallion has fine crisp detail curving in artistic flair, varieties of relief and excitement more than I have ever seen in a medallion!

The medallion original was designed by an artist renowned for Western artworks including a commission by the Nevada governor, a fund raiser that included numerous celebrities of the Silver Screen. I recorded a 15 minute video interview with the gentleman in the historic Piper's Opera House as he is also a Director for the V&T, the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, now operating steam engine service from Carson City to Virginia City on "The Crookedest Railway in the World". That label flashed into existence from the wit of Mark Twain who was Samuel Clemens before arriving to the era of bonanza mining the richest silver vein in the world of the late 1800s.

Au (Gold) grades were 0.3 - 2.65 OPT. A bonanza is not just defined by OPT only. A bonanza must also be a substantial body of gold ore.

The Comstock used numerous stamping mills with mercury at the base to separate the gold grains from the quartz. Stamping mills are so loud they can be heard from miles away.

Ag (Silver) grades were 0.06 to 606 OPT.

That's what made the financial total of silver close to gold - large quantities of silver, hence The Silver State was nicknamed because of the Comstock.
